Bishop's Pre-Synod Newsletter
October, 2014

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This newsletter comes to you with every hope and prayer for a successful and joyful General Synod. Please pray for the safe travels of all who will attend this important, historic synod.

Our 2014 meeting is historic because, for the first time since the founding of the Continuing Anglican jurisdictions, two churches will come together for the purpose of holding Concurrent Synods. Our sister jurisdiction, The Anglican Province of America, will join us at Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois for several days of prayer and fellowship.National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows

Although our business meetings will be held separately, as is appropriate, there will be many opportunities for informal meetings and the sharing of our Christian lives and journeys. We pray that this dynamic time will produce lasting friendships and solid working relationships among faithful Christians.

Our schedule will begin with Morning Prayer on Tuesday, October 14. Daily Mass will be celebrated at noon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The Pontifical High Mass will be concelebrated by Bishops Grundorf and Marsh at 5:00 pm on Thursday evening.

Meetings will begin on Tuesday morning with the ACA House of Bishops. We have a full agenda and look forward to discussing issues of mission and evangelism, clergy education, budgetary needs and the upcoming College of Bishops meeting.

The Executive Council will meet on Wednesday, October 15.

The General Synod of the Anglican Church in America will meet on Thursday, October 16 and Friday, October 17. Major issues will include:

Voting on a new Constitution. Any new Constitution requires the affirmative vote of two General Synods, so this Constitution, subject to approval, will not take effect until 2017.

Voting on amendments to the Concordat of the Traditional Anglican Communion. The Concordat has required updating, particularly with regard to the responsibilities and authority, as well as term limits, of the TAC Primate.

Mission and Evangelism

An Ecumenical approach to clergy education

The Rev. Mr. Merrill Perkins has passed his canonical exam for the priesthood. Mr. Kevin Kelley has passed his canonical exam for the diaconate. The Board of Examining Chaplains has informed the bishop of their recommendation that these two men be ordained subject to the required approvals. Please pray for these two fine men as they continue their service to God's holy church.

Your Brother in Christ,

Bishop Marsh, Presiding Bishop of the ACA and Bishop Grundorf, Presiding Bishop of the APA
